Oregon ArtsWatch: According to the two organizations, the findings will inform a statewide analysis of the creative economy and help identify opportunities to strengthen Oregon’s creative industries and cultural organizations. After reading articles focused on how strained the theater industry is it is welcoming to see how the Oregon Arts Commission and Oregon Cultural Trust are putting effort and care in supporting their artists and business. Very often in our lives arts are an after thought for gaining government or organizational funding and instead rely on investors and patrons. I think a shift towards government assistance and community interest and involvement in the arts would be extremely beneficial to our ever growing and changing arts culture. With the price of materials and labor increasing the pay off for many artists isn’t enough to support their livelihood. I feel like the arts shouldn’t have to be a side job or a hobby when there are so many aspects of life that depend on it. Without art, design and creativity many objects and spaces we use would not be as accommodating or useful. To have the active systematic support of the community would do wonders for expanding and supporting the arts.
