www.broadwayworld.com: While plenty of Broadway icons showed up at The Festival over the weekend in Kingston, New York, there were also performances from people and works you may not know — at least not yet!
During Saturday’s jam-packed lineup of programming, seven new musicals gave theater fans a taste of their show during an almost two-hour set on the Broadway Direct mainstage. Some of them are from writers who are early on in their careers, while others are by theatermakers who have already been on Broadway.

It's neat to see someone using the success of Hamilton to retell stories such as Hamilton's in the same style. It's wonderful that this style is much more accepted following Hamilton, and it gives new artists a lot more options to style and test their own shows. As for the story about high school queer love, it's awesome to see more representation being brought and I feel Broadway will be a very good medium for that storytelling, given successes such as the recent Rocky Horror Show on Broadway. Regency girls reminds me a good amount of Suits; it would be incredibly interesting to do some lighting for to try and recreate the older lighting mediums of older generations, such as candlelight. I had similar thoughts regarding Someday Soon, it would be an incredibly interesting and I believe challenging, show to do scenic or lighting design for because it has to be so serious, and there are historical dues to pay, so to speak, to honor those this show is written about. I really enjoyed the supposed whimsy of Huzzah! I feel as though it could be a very fun, lighthearted show that could be adapted really well to younger playhouses, like community and educational theatre.
