Theatre Washington Announces Theatre Week 2026

AMERICAN THEATRE: Theatre Washington has today announced Theatre Week 2026, a three-week celebration of the D.C. area’s vibrant, diverse, and world-class theatre scene, which will run Sept. 24–Oct. 11. The annual event offers residents and visitors $25, $45, and $65 tickets to more than 30 productions across the region. This year’s lineup includes free performances at a metro station and an airport, opportunities to connect with the region’s theatre community and learn about advocacy, and programming to bring theatre directly to audiences across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

A “Theatre Week” is a great way to encourage local audiences to support the growing popularity of regional theatre. Using discounts and even free tickets to shows is a great way to make theatre more accessible to a wider audience. Additionally, taking donations for a good cause and ending the week with an “Advocacy Day” helps the audiences who enjoyed the week of performances understand what they can do to support the future of theatre in the D.C. area. The popularity of weeks such as this one has increased, as my own city hosts its version of theatre week with discounted tickets and conversations regarding the future of the arts. Overall, making theatre accessible to a wider audience and subsequently helping this audience realize the importance of supporting the arts is a great way for regional theatre to not only generate revenue but also create a more arts-conscious city.
