To be honest, I had never considered the history of road cases. The black box on wheels is something that has always been a constant in my limited road experience. I find it very interesting that they have evolved alongside the traveling music industry. What I find most interesting is how their evolution seemingly took place almost entirely in America. Traveling and touring musical acts are not a uniquely American thing, but it seems that, at least as expressed in the article, that they were first developed and continually innovated upon solely in America. My assumption as to the reasoning behind this would be that the united states covers a much larger geographic area than many other countries, and as such touring acts within our country might be more prone to equipment damage, as they have to cover much larger distances on their tours, leading to their equipment having much more opportunity to be jostled or crushed on the road.
Learning from the past development of a product can help to reveal what the most important aspects to focus on in future development will be. I find it interesting how different manufacturing companies saw the initial road cases being designed and shipped out and thought about how to make their own instead of paying for the Anvil cases to be shipped to where the tech was being built or shipped out of. With these companies building their own creates and boxes it also ensures that the tech they are protecting can have transportation cases built specifically to protect the potentially easy to damage instead of relying on inserts that may or may not work depending on what types of road cases you have on hand. Protecting equipment can be very important, especially with the continuing march toward more and more complicated technology that is getting harder and harder for technicians to repair quickly on the go.
