PBS News: The Kennedy Center took down a sculpture known as "Blue" Wednesday, the latest change to the cultural and performing arts center that stirred some pushback in President Donald Trump's second term.
The sculpture, a tall, blue stick figure poised in action — as if to kick a ball or, from a different angle, having just kicked one — was designed by sculptor Joel Shapiro and installed in 2019.

There is something terrifying about seeing more and more art being erased with each coming day. These community staple art pieces often act as a welcome to visitors and monuments to signify the area. Something I think that is also extremely important about these amazing art pieces is the artist behind them who puts so much meaning and heart into these pieces. These giant pieces are staples in the community but also evidence of an artist and the work they do, with every piece we erase we are erasing the mark these artists leave on the world. Articles like these just put more and more of an emphasis on the need to protect artists who constantly are being shut down and censored simply because they want to create. Hopefully we can work towards a world that appreciates and sees the value in art the way artists do.
