It really just feels like Trump ran out rooms to guild with gold in the white house, so he decided to start targeting another building. Probably because it has someone else's name on it and that makes him sad. I really wish he could just leave this one nice, pretty unpartisan thing alone, but instead he felt the need to insert himself and his beliefs onto art and art education. And instead of growing this institution or doing anything of value, he’s decided to lock the doors, fabricate stories about the building falling apart onto security guards, and throw a fit because no one will let him put his name on a building that seemingly no one wants him to have. I really hope the Kennedy center manages to withstand this attack for the next couple years, and go back to helping enrich the arts scene once Trump is out of office.
I, like many others, have been reading the headlines about Trump and the Kennedy Center for months. However, this is the first time where I have read an in-depth description of the goings-on. It is terribly disappointing to see something built on bipartisan values of furthering and celebrating the arts be used as a political stunt seemingly with no true purpose beyond that of bolstering our president's ego. It is clear that the Kennedy center was approached by Trump with no respect for the value and meaning it holds for many people. I sincerely hope that the Kennedy Center leadership gets reworked, and that people who actually care about the arts are put into place to reverse the damage done. Knowing how Trump likes to treat things however, I am concerned that he may begin to see it as a lost cause and simply choose to tear the entire thing down without a second thought.
Once again I will say that the current administration is full of bullies who are trying to twist the truth into them becoming the saviors when they are the reason some things need saving. I do appreciate how the New York Times refer to Trump as Mr. Trump and not President Trump. It is a very subtle yet still very there way to undermine him. Every time I hear more about the situation at the Kennedy Center and how Trump just keeps pushing for his name to be on the building with threats of destroying the center it reminds me of a toddler not getting his way. He is throwing tantrums because he has not earned his name to be added to any historical building but he believes he has just by existing. I am always happy to hear that people are still fighting him on this and not just rolling over to let him have his way which I know he is not used to but should be.
Managing a situation where the people over your head want your job or company or business to fail is a nightmare scenario. Trying to make your employees try to make the best of a bad situation is very hard to do when the people above you are trying to gut everything around you.
