How 'Mission: Impossible 7' Pulled Off Epic Train Scene

variety.com: “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’s” infamous train scene was meant to take place aboard the Orient Express, as it roars through the Swiss Alps; which for production is a big request if you’re not shooting on location.

I haven't seen any of the Mission Impossibles, which honestly I really should as it is such a large part of pop culture and such a big thing within the movie industry. However, I still clicked on this article because I know any epic scene is going to be epic and complicated because, duh, it's Mission Impossible. This was the perfect opportunity/excuse to watch a really cool movie clip. I didn't know this was also set on the Orient Express. I didn't realize this train was such a big thing and not just a random train that Agatha Christie named in her novel. I think it's so cool that they actually filmed it on a moving train. I would assume that they would just use a green screen and a stationary platform to perform the fight on top of, but alas, it's Mission Impossible so naturally, they would actually fight on a moving train.

I always wondered how movies who pull stunts as large as those in the article get the clearance to be out there and who do they even contact for permission. While the article didn’t actually go into detail all that much about the paperwork it hyped up, I still think its fascinating they have to budget time into their plan to see if they can even film where they want to. I imagine that the budget changes drastically depending if everyone has to fly out to Norway and borrow the train plus add all the insurance issues with stunts like that vs shooting this in front of a greenscreen with the fake top of a train. I don’t know if I like the commitment to the realism of the scene or if I think it’s a waste of time and resources depending on how it would’ve looked on something say a greenscreen.
