Why Drew Barrymore and Daytime TV Are Under Fire During the WGA Strike
IndieWire: The WGA picketed Barrymore’s daytime talk show, which employed three WGA members prior to the strike. The program joins the ranks of ABC’s “The View,” which also returned. “The Talk,” “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” and “The Kelly Clarkson Show” have all announced their intention to return before the strike ends; they can expect the same treatment.

A great example of this done well was Conan Obrien during the last writer’s strike when they went back on air just without any writing. The show made the point that they need the writers to make a good show, without them they just have what Conan’s show did. Chaos with no clear line of thought. Conan spent minutes on end spinning his wedding ring just to fill time. Additionally, Drew Barrymore has long been looked at as someone who’s gone through the industry and talks honestly and critically about what goes on. She’s been known to have guests on and to defend them to the industry at large. Many people had idolized her in that light and to see her change to support the studio over the average worker is appalling and just goes to show how easily a chance for more money and fame can corrupt someone even someone like this.
