David Byrne Will Host Special Here Lies Love Performance Benefiting Nonprofit Arbutus
Playbill: David Byrne will host a special performance of Here Lies Love on September 28 benefiting his nonprofit, Arbutus. Local educational and community groups will also participate, including Forest Hills High School Filipino Club, Apex for Youth, Broadway for All and NYU.

I will fully and honestly admit that I do not know who David Byrne is. I do not know what Here Lies Love is. And I did not know what Arbutus was before this article. I think that organization is definitely interesting and sets a good precedent for what arts organizations should be focused on now and in the future. I will always get a happy feeling when stars, especially broadway and theatre stars, donate the proceeds of their performances to non profit organizations like this. It shows that even though they are famous and rich and just generally stars of the stage, that they still care about the community and the future of the medium and of the arts in general. Theatre is an art that has been dying for the last 1000 years and yet refuses to die. Its’ prolonged life is not due to society, rather it is due almost entirely to the love and care of its stewards. Theatre as an art form would not have continued as long as it has unless the people who worked in it cared about its future and worked hard to pass on that baton.
