Leslie Odom Jr. stars in 'Purlie Victorious,' a Jim Crow satire on Broadway

NPR: The first revival of Ossie Davis' satire on the Jim Crow south, Purlie Victorious: A Romp Through the Non-Confederate Cotton Patch, is opening on Broadway after a 62-year absence. But the play is no relic – the people involved say its pointed humor speaks to our current world.

I had seen this opening in multiple headlines throughout the last couple of weeks. I also kept hearing about it at Carnegie Mellon because Leslie Odom Jr. is a very famous alum of the school of drama and is very well respected by the Carnegie Mellon community and the global theater community. I think that this play discusses topics and ideas that need to be put on stage and the deserve to be talked about in such a manner. All of the content I have seen of the play so far has been intriguing and has made me want to go see it. I would be so excited to see how Leslie Odom Jr. brings his spin to the role, as he does with every role he has ever gotten, and evolves the character more than anyone else could, in my opinion.
