Will ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Hosts And Celebs Waltz Through A Picket Line?

www.forbes.com: It’s almost time for glitz, glam and a sliding scale of celebrities to return to the small screen, as Season 32 of Dancing With the Stars kicks off September 26 on ABC. At least, that’s the plan.

I genuinely hope that they will end up not being scabs and crossing the picket line. I understand, on a level, the reason they would want to still go on. We worry about money and stability in our lives, we all have people to support and lives that we have to live, for this I would understand the regular people who would still go on the show. However this empathy of mine does not extend to the famous people who would still go on. They have money, they have stability, and I do understand that this is their career but they are capable of supporting themselves and the people around them. I see their reluctance to back up the unions to be reprehensible and such a clear lack of respect to those who truly need the union and the things that they can do for them. Frankly shameful, if they go through with it I hope they are blacklisted by SAG-AFTRA.

Dancing With the Stars has been a huge part of my childhood and I absolutely love the show. My grandma and I used to always watch it together and I would call her with updates about who we wanted to win and how people were doing. I think the show itself is in an era of change, and I think a break from filming, even without a strike going on, would be a good idea. With the initial retirement, and then passing of Len Goodman– one of the reasons so many people stuck around and a huge formative member of the show– it feels only right for them to take a second and regroup. I hope for everyone's sake that they do not cross the picket lines as I think these shows are the ones that will really influence the strikes, since it’ll prove to studios that they don't need writers to keep receiving revenue from shows like this. I will be interested to see where this goes, but I do not want the show to become one of the many productions that are trying to test the waters into scab territory.
