Conferences for the entertainment industry are interesting because they provide an opportunity for the people who make up the industry to come together, whether they be students, educators, professionals, or manufacturers. This article reminded me of when I got to visit USITT as a junior in high school when it came to Baltimore. While I only went to the expo, not the full conference, I really appreciated the experience. I got to see the broad range of manufacturers that are needed to support the entertainment industry. I also found it fun just to be able to see and put my hands on cool toys. USITT 2022 was the debit of the APEX line of consoles from ETC and I got to see the new buttons and encoders at the conference.
The other great thing about conferences is the amount of knowledge they bring to one place. Every venue is unique, and technicians can get used to the quirks of one type of venue. The skills that someone learns in doing that might also be helpful in other places, but it is necessary to have a way to share that knowledge. Conferences are a great way to do this.
This article was So cool to read! It was fascinating to learn about such a large and influential event that shapes the lighting and sound tech industry. My favorite part to learn was the major conversation about sustainability that is happening. I think that it is incredibly important that as an industry we continue to strive to find greener solutions to our problems as well as inventing greener fixtures. It was very reassuring to know that that is at the forefront of other peoples minds as well and that active action is being taken to better our environmental impact. I would love to attend the event one year because of truly how much cutting edge technology is present! In addition to the technology, all of the masterminds behind the technology are there showcasing it and the opportunity to talk with them about their thought process and how they approached the solution would be fascinating.
