Carving Out a Slice of Theatre Life at ‘Measure STILL for Measure’ (The NoPro Review)
by Juliet Bennett Rylah | Sep, 2023 | No Proscenium: What would be more immersive than life itself, right? What I mean is, my experience with Measure STILL for Measure, a new work by writer/director Jessica Kubzansky at Pasadena’s Boston Court, ended up lasting a full day despite the show’s approximate 2.5-hour runtime. I’ll explain.

I’m a huge fan of immersive theater so I thought this was super interesting. It is essentially this meta theatrical play where the audience sees and gets to know the actors first before they see the show. The actors are acting as actors. It essentially tells the story of measure for measure twice. Once is measure for measure and the other is the story of the actors which mirrors measure for measure. Hence, measure STILL for measure. The sexism and harassment that took place in Measure for Measure is STILL happening today. I thought the title was very clever. This article didn’t do a very good job of explaining the experience of seeing this show, they more just said, “this is what happens.” That’s a fine enough review I’m just not able to grasp what it was like and if the concept works as well in person as it does on paper.
