I spent a lot of time with this article. I went through all the award winners and a decent number of the nominations. I wanted to see what kinds of art are being recognized. It is really interesting to see what is considered good design because it varies so much over time. I loved looking at the similarities between all the designs that were nominated. It helps me to see what types of designs are appreciated in today’s world.I also really love that this award is solely for designers. So often the design awards are overshadowed by actors, as that’s what people care about. Design awards are announced first at the Oscars, Tonys, and other big award shows. It feels as though the designers are just there to build up anticipation for the “big” awards. For this award show to be only designers allows for the design awards to be the “big” awards, which is something we don’t see often.
