Baltimore's newest live event venue, M&T Bank Exchange, shines with Elation

LightSoundJournal.com: M&T Bank Exchange in Baltimore has opened as the city’s newest live event venue with a state-of-the-art Elation Professional lighting package that can cater to any occasion from concert to reception and everything in between. The new 14,193-square-foot performance space has been created within the shell of an historic 19th century bank building and represents the long-awaited final phase of the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center.

Growing up in Baltimore I have had a lot of connections with the Hippodrome over the years. The most obvious is that the hippodrome is the largest roadhouse in the area and I have seen many shows there. I also have connections with people who run the educational programming at the Hippodrome. I have heard about the construction of this theater for a long time but the details have always been fuzzy. After reading this article I am even more confused about what the goal of the space is. The venue overall operates as a roadhouse, doing some educational work on the side. There is no resident theater company in the venue, with all shows being rentals or tours. I don’t know for sure what kinds of groups they are planning on renting this space to, but this seems like a lot of gear for a rental space. I am not surprised that they hired installers from Orlando to do the installation. We have several companies who do that work locally in Baltimore, but in my experience they are not very good.
