The first-ever TV and film studio is set to open in Manhattan in 2025
www.timeout.com/newyork: Although countless film and TV productions are set in Manhattan, the borough has yet to lay claim to its very own production-studio complex. Things are about to change, though.

Being someone who is really interested in film and lives on the East Coast this was very exciting information for me to read about. I knew that there were a couple film studios here and there in New York, but I didn’t know that it would even be possible for Manhattan to claim its own complex. This is an incredible idea that will hopefully lead to countless opportunities for people in the industry. I’m surprised that it will be opening so soon in 2025. This means that I could possibly work there once I graduate, which is very exciting to me. I also like the fact that they incorporated bringing something to the greater community of New York with the public restrooms and open pier access. That is a great contribution to the greater public of New York city and surely is something to look forward to. I also did not know that New York has the second largest collection of studios, but I guess it makes sense. I didn’t think that there were actually that many studios, and I had no idea that they were actually a bot outside of the city. I guess that’s because it's hard to find good, large spaces within the city that actually accommodate the studio’s needs.
The news about a TV and film studio opening in Manhattan is very exciting. Even though many movies and TV shows are set in Manhattan, it didn't have its own place for making them. But now, that's changing. This is good for a few reasons. It can bring more jobs to the city, like actors, crew members, and other staff needed to produce movies and tv shows. It can also help the city by bringing in more money because lots of people will want to film here. But it's important that they do this in a way that doesn't harm the environment and that everyone can enjoy. It's essential that this new studio complex also prioritizes sustainability and community engagement. As Manhattan evolves, preserving its character and ensuring accessibility for all its residents should remain at the forefront of this exciting venture. Overall, the addition of a TV and film studio in Manhattan is a promising development that could elevate the city's status as a global entertainment hub while contributing positively to its local culture and economy.
I thought that this article was very interesting to read. In it we learn that the first television and film studio set in Manhattan is set to open in 2025, called the Sunset Pier 94 studios. There are so many shows and movies that take place in New York that I expected there to be film studios there. According to the article, the project will cost a total of $320 million which is absolutely insane. I consume a lot of media in the form of television shows and films, but I do not know much about it. I think that having this film studio in New York would make film a lot more accessible for people who have not had the chance to explore it. After the strikes going on now, this also has the possibility to open up many more jobs in this industry which would be extremely beneficial for writers, crew/ creative members, and actors in the tri-state area.
It is bonkers to me that this is the first studio. Nestled amidst the towering skyscrapers and vibrant cityscape, this cutting-edge facility represents a remarkable milestone in the evolution of the entertainment industry. The East Coast has been ramping up film and TV creation for years. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and soundproof studios, it promises to be a hub for creativity and innovation, attracting the brightest talents from across the globe. This studio not only pays homage to the rich cinematic history of Manhattan but also propels the city into a future where storytelling knows no bounds. Although not opening for a couple more years, I’m sure that as the cameras roll for the first time within these walls, a sense of anticipation and excitement will fill the air, promising a new chapter in the world of television and film that will captivate audiences worldwide. Excited to see what gets made there.
This is very exciting to hear! Being a young student going into the professional theatre world soon, I found it somewhat disheartening that you essentially have to choose what type of theatre you want to do, film or live. I feel theatre is such a unique industry to work in, regardless of what type of theatre it is. So, to feel pressured to choose between the two types of theatre and the locations that come with it is very scary. California and New York City are extremely different in regard to their living situation, vibe, opportunities, weather, and so much more. The worst part is that they are so far away from each other, so it is essentially a polarizing choice; you can't get the best of both worlds unless you are extremely privileged, which most young theatre professionals are not. This is why I am very excited to hear that New York City is looking to expand its film industry. I look forward to hearing about how this impacts professional gigs in New York.
