All I can do is ask why. Why G-d Why. People seem to forget that not every show that closed early and long ago was good. It is not a hidden gem and it is not a victim of audience sensibilities at the time. This show was at the time bad and will remain bad. Don’t get me wrong, the lineup of designers they have working on this show will make sure that it is a technical and design marvel, it will be beautiful to look at and to listen to. But it will be a golden cloak wrapped around a rotting piece of trash. Starlight Express was the product of an over inflated ego, the abundance of a cocaine addiction, and the uninspired drivel that is so typical of a Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. It is what happens when an unimpressive man buys into his own hype. I do not know what inspired these producers to bring this maggot filled zombie out of the shallow grave it was given but they should be institutionalized. This entire concept is an exercise in the sort of artistic bankruptcy that allowed Andrew Lloyd Webber to make musicals in the first place.
