ProSoundWeb: Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, a 20,656-seat open-air venue that was the first soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer built in a city’s downtown district that’s the home of four sports teams, recently underwent an audio upgrade carried by new L-Acoustics A Series loudspeakers and supporting components in a design and installation by Houston-based LD Systems, a Clair Global brand.

I think the most interesting part of this article is the discussion about the scale and retrofit requirements. First, projects of this scale are not something often seen in traditional theater, and even in larger contexts, such as arena concerts. Show like arena concerts also have a lot more control over how the equipment is rigged and arranged, opposed to this project, which required working with the existing structure. I would love to know more about the software they used to do this, their modeling software. They also talk about how energy efficient the system is, and I do wonder how much more efficient they were about to actually make it, considering speakers simply require energy to push out noise. Stadiums are also notorious for echo-filled, unclear announcing, and I would be interested in how effective their equipment choices, locations, and modeling actually reduced that.
