After reading this article I am realizing how little I actually know about laser control. I know that there are a lot of safety concerns when it comes to operating lasers in order to ensure that audience members are not blinded. I also know that incredible effects can be created from lasers but I wouldn't know how to start. Given that, I didn’t understand the specific context of these software updates, but I did find a couple things noteworthy. One thing that this upgrade works on is syncing lasers to Ableton and musical time. I think that this is indicative of the idea that lasers are frequently used with and synchronized to music. I also found it interesting that Pangolin is building software on an iPad. I understand how tablets can be useful for control in lighting and sound systems, but I am confused about exactly how this is helpful for laser systems. It seems to me that a network connection would be unreliable for the safety which you must be concerned with for lasers.
