John Patrick Shanley Is This Season’s King Dramatist

Observer: “I’m a longtime fan of the drop-off laundry,” crows playwright John Patrick Shanley with a certain discernible pride. Somehow, he convinces you he sees more into it than anyone else.

It is so interesting to see an article about John Patrick Shanley when I have been writing about one of his shows in Foundations of Drama. I chose his play The Red Coat for my independent project from the compilation of 6 plays published as Welcome to the Moon. I enjoyed reading through most of his works, and his unique, partially eclectic writing style is definitely something I hope to read more of. I specifically enjoyed his play Doubt and his screenplay Moonstruck, both of which are considered to be his most notable works. What I found to be the most interesting from this was not only the overview of his work, something I did spend time working on myself, but also the new perspectives this gave me on how he handled and wrote the various premises that he came up with. Overall I enjoyed reading yet another view on his works, and it’s given me a fresh perspective.
