Palm Royale on AppleTV+ Drenches Kristen Wiig in 60s Style
thekit.ca: Palm Royale had me at Carol Burnett. She is everything you could hope for in this dramedy series, which launches March 20 on AppleTV+, gleefully chewing up the scenes even while lying stock still in a coma.
The legendary comedienne is the gilded Easter Egg in this study of the culture clash in Palm Beach, Florida, in the pivotal year of 1969.

Palm Royale seems like the aesthetic I love to consume in media. The late 60s early 70s mod on the brim of the more bohemian look is dreamy to me. The book Mary Jane is one of my favorites and captures this aesthetic beautifully. While on my short list of things to watch, I doubt I’ll get to it before the end of the school year. This article illuminated the fact that Carol Burnett is in this show. I grew up watching the Carol Burnett show with my grandparents and was probably the youngest in the audience during her last speaking tour. There’s a commitment to the production design in this show which is exciting to see. The line, “There is also an image of a giant uterus on the bookstore wall,” is right up my alley. There’s an attention to detail given to these characters in their visual aesthetic. This show seems similar to White Lotus, which I enjoyed thoroughly, so I can’t wait to stream it!
