I am very glad that this case had the outcome it did. This case was a major fight from Actor’s Equity Association against not just Garth Drabinsky but also any producer that would want to take advantage of workers and not pay them what they are due. When the whole thing with Paradise Square first happened, many people were worried that Drabinsky and any other producers like him would just be able to get away with mistreating artists in this way. However, it is now clear that Equity is more than willing to put up a fight to protect their members. Even now though, this case is not completely over and there are still a few cases to be brought against Drabinsky and the Paradise Square producers. I hope that the other cases brought against Drabinsky have outcomes that also support the artists and I am hopeful that this indicates a trend towards better protections in the future.
