3rd Season of Roundabout's Refocus Project Will Highlight Asian American and Pacific Islander Playwrights
Playbill: This year will highlight the works of Asian American and Pacific Islander playwrights. Roundabout will workshop and produce free readings of each play this summer in the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre, followed by streaming versions of the readings in the fall.

I am always happy to see Asian American and Pacific Islanders having chances to be highlighted for increased visibility within the theatre industry. I liked reading the different works to come from the playwrights, especially Velina Haas Houston who’s play was also produced at East West Players who I did as my affinity theatre for a school paper. I read about the Roundabout Theatre’s Refocus Program while researching for an affinity theatre in Anti Racist and Equitable Practices class but didn’t think it qualified for the project seeing as the Refocus Program is well–a program, and the Roundabout theatre was never an affinity theatre to begin with. Nevertheless it’s interesting to see initiatives and timelines of a theatre that begins to do affinity work vs affinity theatres in terms of looking at their inclusivity and diversity statements.
