Pittsburgh secretly has one of the best music scenes in the country
Pittsburgh City Paper: When you think of thriving music scenes across the country, and what gives them their clout, cities like Nashville, Los Angeles, Austin, Seattle, and New York are some of the first that come to mind. Nashville is the country music capital of the world. L.A. was known for hair metal in the ‘80s and rap in the ‘90s, while Seattle pumped out grunge. Austin is the SXSW homeland and a creative breeding ground that can’t quite be pinned down. And New York is … well … New York.

I had no idea that music scenes even existed in Pittsburgh. But after reading this article, it makes sense that there is a large music scene here. Pittsburgh isn’t as well known for its music as Nashville and LA are but it does have a community that lends itself beneficial to artists, musical or not. Before coming here for college I did not know how vibrant this city could be. It’s almost like a mini-New York but without all the traffic and smells. I have found that I enjoy going downtown to experience a Pens game or to go see a show from a touring artist. In this article, the writer talks about cafes where he has played, and I am going to try to find some of these cafes in the next four years that I’m here. I am a big music fan and concertgoer so knowing that there are little venues tucked away in this city is exciting. I honestly can’t believe that artists like Rusted Root and The Clarks and Code Orange originated in Pittsburgh. I will constantly be amazed by this city and it is my goal to experience as much as I possibly can of it before I graduate.
Every day I find out something new about Pittsburgh and this city has such an abundance of wonders and an immense amount of culture. With the amount of culture and history that Pittsburgh holds it is no surprise to me that this city also has a big/ one of the best music scenes. I was completely unaware about this aspect of Pittsburgh more than likely because I haven’t gotten the chance to explore the music scene areas of Pittsburgh or the city itself as a whole. Though. After reading this article, I feel as if I really need to get out more into the city because I am missing out on so much. Additionally, it really should come to no surprise to me that Pittsburgh has a big music scene because I also learned that Abby Lee Dance Company or the TV show Dance Moms was also filmed in Pittsburgh. Showing Pittsburgh is full of surprises.
