Jeff Awards Launch Impact Fellowship Program
AMERICAN THEATRE: The Jeff Awards have announced the creation of the Jeff Impact Fellowship, a new grant award program designed to support early to mid-career artists of color in the greater Chicagoland area. The program will award grants of $10,000 each to two artists to support their pursuit of artistic excellence in Chicago theatre.

The Jeff Awards have launched a new Impact Fellowship program aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion in the Chicago theatre community. The program will provide paid fellowships to underrepresented theatre professionals, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals, to support their professional development and help them build networks within the industry. The initiative is a promising step towards creating a more equitable and representative theatre community, and one that is sorely needed in today's world.
Of course, it remains to be seen how successful the Impact Fellowship program will be in practice, and whether it will lead to real change in the industry. But even the fact that the program exists is a positive sign, and I hope that other theatre organizations will follow the Jeff Awards' lead in taking concrete steps towards greater diversity and inclusion. Ultimately, the success of the theatre community depends on the ability of all voices to be heard, and initiatives like the Impact Fellowship program are an important step in that direction.
