It just kind of make sense that all of these summer stock theatre’s are moving outdoors doesn’t it. With the way that world has been over the past year plus outdoor theatre to me at least sometimes feels like the only “good” option we have for properly socially distanced audiences. That being said I find it interesting that so many theatre’s are willing to jump into the deep end so to say. Outdoor theatre can be challenge and it certainly presents issues that we never have to think about when working indoors. And this is from things as simple as the scenery will get rained on to what do you do about bathrooms or if a squirrel takes a big out of dimmer or a bird builds a next in a par 64. I’m not just saying those things as downsides those are all thins that happened to me over the course of my first week working outdoors one summer. It’s gonna be really interesting and I hope more theatre’s stick with it in the future as I do feel outdoor theatre can be some of the most beautiful art we create.
I found this article fairly interesting. It is so inspiring to hear that theatre is coming back slowly. These summer stock theatres are a bid deal in the area outside NYC and will be many people's first experience back to a live performance. I think it is a good idea to keep most of the performances outside however this can provide a challenge to all the aspects of technical theatre. The set must be built to be somewhat waterproof, seeing that it could rain anytime. There might be certain precautions to be taken with the construction of the costumes to make them more breathable so that actors do not become overheated in the hot summer days. I think lighting might have the biggest challenge because they must build all the structures to hand lights off of and then they also have to compete with the sun to light the stage if its not at night. The article seems very promising and I am looking forward to hearing what these various theatres can accomplish
