Learning from professionals is critical for advancing your own craft and exploring new techniques as people design. I think that industry conferences and seminars like this one serve a very valuable force in sharing techniques between designers and making known methods that can be helpful in all kinds of production. While our industry often feels small, there is likely someone else who has solved a similar problem to the one you are trying to solve now, and hearing the way that they accomplished their purpose can be very useful in determining the way in which you will approach a problem and not falling into any potential pitfalls. Some skulls can only be learned through experience, but learning from other people’s experiences can allow us to have a base which we build from when experiencing new things and growing our knowledge. I have certainly learned a lot of what I know now through discussions with other more experienced technicians and designers.
