Urban Sketching by Australian Artist Stephen Travers
mymodernmet.com: Inspired by the light, color, shapes, and texture of the world around him, artist Stephen Travers creates stunning urban sketches. The Australian artist is particularly fascinated by Paris, with many of his sketches capturing the city's charm. Using pen and ink, he expertly captures the architectural environment.

I adore this style of sketching in grayscale with a pen. I was attracted to the cover image of the article because it reminded me of what I like to do when I sketch. I’ve always been interested in sketching buildings and architectural spaces. I think this semester has changed how I perceive sketching architecture because of course with scenic design it’s important to strengthen one’s ability to communicate what they see into a 2D space–but also Technical direction has quite changed how I draw. I think to me perspective has become much more important–as well as finding what makes buildings tick in their ability to be convincing portrayals of the real thing. Sometimes I think the way buildings and units are built for theater come off as flat and blocky and I hope by studying the architecture of different types of walls and bridges and etc will help in being able to translate drawings into convincing realizations.
