I think that it’s really important for all of us to read books on leadership in theatrical spaces. Yes, obviously it’s important for people like stage and production managers, but in every theatrical department and role, we have places where we need to know how to lead, how to speak up, how to listen, and how to take critique. I think that reading books like these, even though they may or may not directly relate to our chosen profession, reading can help us all become better collaborators, and help us become more effective, empathetic, and influential leaders, ultimately leading to improved and all around better productions. I have not read any of the books on this list, and while sometimes I find that reading these books can feel a little useless when it’s all common sense, sometimes they can provide a new perspective that is sorely needed.
