I had no idea that costume design for dancers was not as well respected. That is absolutely absurd, considering the fact that it is the same job as any normal costume designer, and it can sometimes even be considered as being more difficult. I really appreciate Raman’s work and the dedication she has put into making her clothing fit and flatter all body types. This should be the bare minimum for costume designers, but it is unfortunately not. I also love the fact that she has also worked to incorporate and celebrate her own culture into her designs. I would love the opportunity to be able to do that someday. It’s great that she has in fact stayed true to her culture’s clothing, by using textiles and natural fabrics from India. Even though she is committed to her culture, I love the fact that Raman also makes sure that her costumes fit the culture of the dancers and the dances that they are doing. This is incredibly important as a designer to make sure that the work you are creating is representing the performers in a way in which they would want.
