Cultural Trust bringing revival tour of Stephen Sondheim's 'Company' to Benedum Center
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The national tour of “Company” is stopping by Downtown’s Benedum Center from Tuesday through April 21. Anyone familiar with Sondheim and George Furth’s 1970 musical should know this “Company” tour is based on the Tony-winning 2021 revival that swapped its protagonist’s gender and modernized the show’s portrayals of relationships, marriage and the very human desire for companionship.

I’m really looking forward to catching the national tour of Company over at the Benedum Center this weekend! I’ve always been amazed by Stephen Sondheim's clever lyrics and the depth of his characters, and this show, with its fresh take on modern relationships, sounds captivating. Judy McLane playing the sharp-tongued Joanne. I can’t wait to see her deliver those wickedly funny lines in The Ladies Who Lunch. It’s one of those songs that really sticks with me! It’s also super interesting that they’ve updated the show with a gender-swapped lead, which adds a whole new dimension to the storyline. Plus, the director, Marianne Elliott, has a great reputation for bringing new life to classic plays, so I’m excited to see how she’s made this version relatable for today’s audience. I’m all set for a night of smart humor, poignant moments, and, of course, some classic Sondheim tunes. It’s going to be a great evening!
I’m so excited to go see Company at the Benedum on Sunday. It’s been one of the many Broadway shows that I have been dying to see and am happy that it’s finally on tour to come and see it. I know very little about this show, but what I do know is that the revival has gender bent the lead. I think this will create a very interesting story and I am interested to see how it plays out on stage. I have always been an avid Sondheim fan, so I know that the lyrics will be well-structured, clever, and fun to listen to. I might even listen to the show online before coming to see it on Sunday because sometimes the beautiful lyrics are drowned out by the acoustics of the theatre. I know that even if I come to this show knowing nothing, I will still have a grand time, and I can’t wait to see how this revival cast brings Sondheim’s music to life once again.
