Hamilton costume designer Paul Tazewell brings colonial flair to contemporary fashion
The Straits Times: When Hamilton first graced the Broadway stage in 2015, few could have predicted the seismic impact the Tony Award-winning musical about United States founding father Alexander Hamilton and his involvement in the American Revolution would have beyond theatre.

When I watched Hamilton, I remember thinking that the costumes were good but I did not realize just how popular the costumes were until reading this article. I am honestly a little surprised to learn just how much hamilton inspired outfits hit the market. I also loved learning a little more about the design behind the costumes in this show. Learning that they did not strive for complete historical accuracy and instead combined more contemporary styles with colonial 17th century clothing is very interesting. I was especially interested to learn about the choice for the neutral base costume almost every character has. Being that it was a visual metaphor for the paper that Hamilton's legacy was written on. The design of the garments to be so intricate and give the illusion of being historically accurate, to help the audience believe what time period you are in but also allow for flexibility and quick changes that the stage requires is just impressive.
This is so cool. I am such a Hamilton fan. ever since I first watched hamilton, I was in love with every part of the design. I would go to the show multiple times and each time I noticed something new. I was very blessed to have the opportunity to see him multiple times, and having it come out on Disney plus was amazing as well. especially seeing things in such intimate detail with the cameras it was really cool. The costumes blew me away. they were so perfectly fit into the era, that it transported me into the time with the actors. not only this they were just gorgeous in general. I also think other parts of the design were really cool, for example in some of the songs where he sings about death being 7 ft ahead of him, there are cross gobos put onto the stage but it's super cool.
