It’s interesting to hear that the IATSE is continuing to struggle to get the film industry up and running after their two different strikes this year. It’s also interesting to see how much of the 1st strike was covered in headlines country-wide. But now, faced with yet another slow-down and possible halt to production, the headline news premieres none of this information. Whether this is to ensure that the general public doesn’t overreact to another slowdown or if it’s just because the news has become “old” it’s unclear. The thing that is clear though, is that there is a loss of institutional knowledge within the industry because of all these strikes. As the article says, a pilot season has not been created for three years. This must have some impact on how the film industry is currently working, the knowledge that is being lost, and the creative aspects of film and TV the general public associates it with. Overall, it will be interesting to see what happens to the film industry once again as it comes to a slowdown in production, writing, editing, and filming.
