Outreach Is Central to Carnegie Mellon's Approach to FAFSA Changes

News - Carnegie Mellon University: Changes intended to simplify the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in 2024 have led to delays and confusion for students and their families across the country. The staff in Carnegie Mellon University’s Office of the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Dean of Admission use of data-informed, individual outreach has been crucial for returning and prospective CMU students seeking to surmount this year’s shifting FAFSA situation.

Before I started looking for articles to read this week I was quite literally on the CMU financial aid portal looking for my financial aid letter. I remember this time last year I had received all my acceptances and financial aid letters and this article is correct. The amount of financial aid I received played a large role in which school I went to. I am currently frustrated because I still have not received my financial aid offer for this upcoming year and it is almost the end of the semester. I also had to redo my FAFSA a few different times due to the changes to the system, and I am incredibly nervous about the results. However, I think this article makes an important point at the end. CMU is good at giving need based aid which is the only reason I could attend this school, and I am trusting that because of the name CMU has created for itself especially within the world of theater that it will end up paying off.
