The Andy Warhol Museum Is Showing Never-Seen-Before Art
Pittsburgh Magazine: It’s been nearly 30 years since The Andy Warhol Museum opened its doors. You’d be forgiven, then, for thinking that the institution would have nothing new to show from its namesake, who died in 1987.
But with 10,000 items in the collection, it turns out it still has plenty of work to share for the first time.

This is really exciting to hear that there is still work that has not been seen by Andy Warhol. I can not believe that the museum has been keeping all of these works for so long and still have not shown them all. I applaud Patrick Moore for taking the time to have the work be sorted through and be put on display. People deserve to see Warhol’s work and it deserves to be displayed and celebrated. This makes me want to go and visit the museum again to see all the new works. I guess by keeping the pieces hidden for so long, the museum has actually given themselves more attention and a reason for people to come back and visit. I wonder if tha was their original intention or if they just kept these works in hiding because they didn’t think they were good enough to be shown. Either way, I’m very excited by these pieces, especially the “Ladies and Gentlemen” collection. I love the fact that Warhol painted trans women of color, giving them a platform to feel represented and beautiful.
I always thought we’ve seen all of Andy Warhol’s work, but I guess like most other artists, there are always pieces that either aren’t discovered or has never been shown to the public before. I haven’t been to the museum yet, but I’ve always wanted to go, but still haven’t gotten the chance to. Whenever I hear Andy Warhol, I always only think of his art of the soup cans and Marilyn Monroe, and although I know that he has created other art, it just doesn’t come to mind, and so I really want to visit the museum and check out more of his art for myself. I actually never knew that Andy Warhol was gay, and that was so interesting for me to learn. The museum director even described the museum as “probably the most queer-friendly museum in the world”, and that’s just so interesting, but I guess I’ll have to see for myself.
