I am honestly quite surprised that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is still finding such steady success after so many years open. I am by no means a big Harry Potter fan, while I find it enjoyable, I’ve never read any of the books and have only watched a few of the movies. I was interested in seeing the Harry Potter show but it was never on the top of my lists of shows to see on Broadway so I still haven’t. I was a bit more interested in seeing it when it was in two parts as it reminded me of Angels in America, but I’m sure its much more digestible now that they’ve combined it into one part. From my friends who have seen it said that the script is not the best, but it has beautiful technical aspects and practical effects on stage and its worth going just for that. Maybe I’ll go see it soon, or maybe I won't, we'll see.

I’ve had my fair share of opinions about the Harry Potter series, it’s hard not to with how well known it is. However, one thing I have to say, and I think is pretty universal, is how incredible the lighting design, the special effects, and all the additions were in the production of Harry Potter and the Cursed child. I was most impressed by the process used to completely shake or ripple through the stage, something which gave a hugely important extra spark to some of the moments in the story. While the play can absolutely stand on its own two feet without the effects, they add something very special on top. I found more interesting the use of small visual effects across the board, not just in huge moments. While the big effects wowed me, I genuinely found it really nice they put in the effort to make small effects so captivating. It was obvious they cared and it showed.
