I never really think about hair and makeup when watching movies unless it is something very obviously present in the design but I guess that is the goal of hair and makeup, so make the actors seem very cohesively part of the world of the play. Especially in naturalistic films where they feature everyday people. I am very happy to see that Saltburn was awarded twice. I thought that Barry Keogen's hair was so important to his character. It showed the time period perfectly and made him look much younger, something that was important as I feel the age difference between the characters and the actor is pushing it a little. I was also happy to see that Maestro won its share of awards as well as the prosthetics in that movie are beyond superb. They are truly magical and something that very few productions attempt as it is tough to be able to pull off.

Makeup and special effects are something I’m really interested in so it was interesting to read this article. When looking through I definitely doubted some of the awards. For instance, Maestro won best SFX makeup but it was up against Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 and Poor Things, both of which utilize more and more demanding SFX. The aging makeup in Maestro was quite impressive but in my opinion not more impressive than Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 or Poor Things. That being said, many other winners definitely deserved their award. The Last of Us definitely deserves that SFX award (even though I wanted Star Trek: Picard to win). I’m also really proud of Dragula for winning. I love Dragula and they definitely deserve that makeup award. Saltburn had amazing makeup, especially for the party scene, so it also definitely deserved the best contemporary makeup award. I was surprised to see that there was a commercial and music video category, and that they were combined into one category. It does make sense as commercials and music videos all require hair and makeup.
