Review: 'Fiddler on the Roof in Concert' Adds a Resplendent Chapter to a Classic Musical

onstagepittsburgh.com: It takes a balancing act of faith, talent and chutzpah to create a nontraditional Fiddler on the Roof, a concert version, featuring dozens of musicians and chorus members, a cast of two dozen actors, a Fab Five of Tamburitzans, and one virtuoso fiddler on the roof.

I really wish I was able to see this production of Fiddler On The Roof. I wanted to go, but the ticket sales would not work for me for some reason. This show was my senior year musical at my high school. At the beginning, I was not super thrilled about doing Fiddler on the roof because I was one of 3 black people in my program in a predominantly white and predominantly Jewish program, so I felt very othered. However, my director, even though he is white and Jewish, wanted to create a diverse production. It was important to him to show that the show transcends one ethnic identity and can relate to people of all backgrounds due to its universal themes. I thought that it was really cool that there were so many people from different theaters and art groups in this show. The collaboration really emphasizes the community aspect of the musical and I’m sure made for a beautiful performance.
