The Biggest New Star Wars Movie Just Broke a Crucial Lucasfilm Tradition
www.inverse.com: Star Wars may be set in a galaxy far, far away, but its filming locations are very terrestrial. Tatooine is in Tunisia, Padme and Anakin discuss sand while overlooking Lake Como in Italy, and Rey first meets Luke on a tiny crag off the coast of Ireland. But aside from those exceptions, most of Star Wars is filmed in studios, and the upcoming spinoff movie The Mandalorian and Grogu won’t be an exception.

Okay this article is a little over exaggerated. I understand the history of star wars filming locations and I get that it’s a big deal it won’t be in the same studio but it’s not like it’s changing the location for specific places it’s just changing where the studio based scenes happen which especially now with all the current technology that is available does little to impact the actual film or look of the scenes. The only difference is to the cast and crew who get to be in a different area. The look of the entire film will remain entirely the same. I’m not one to bah traditions, I think they’re really fun but I don’t think this needed to be a big deal, it’s just a studio location. If it was say Tatooine being filmed in a different place that’d be different but this is barely going to be noticeable.
I think this article is over reacting. I clicked on it thinking they were changing some fundamental way of filming or performing stunts but all they’re really doing is keeping the Mandalorian movie at the studio where all of the mandalorian has been filmed anyway. I don’t understand why this author is so concerned. Their idea is that all Star Wars movies have been filmed in the UK and they’re concerned that if the Mandalorian films in the US it’ll somehow be bad? I don’t really understand their point. I would honestly be more concerned if they decided to film the movie in an entirely different studio from the rest of the TV show. That being said I know nothing about how movie studios work so maybe it really makes no difference what studio a movie is filmed in. I honestly have no idea. However, I don’t think that the mandalorian movie being filmed in california will make it a bad movie.
