Best Laser Tape Measure - Lasers for Distance Measurement

www.protoolreviews.com: Finding the best laser tape measure for distance measurement is like trying to identify the best work boots—one size most definitely doesn’t fit all. The very first laser distance measure I owned was a Bosch GLM15, and I still use it. Since I got it, laser distance measures have become more commonplace…. and complex. They now come with new features, calculations, and even smart connectivity. Not everyone needs all those bells and whistles, though. I’ll help you figure out the best laser distance measurer for you.

Personally, I am a big fan of measuring stuff. Some may say I become a menace with a tape measure in my hands. The way I see it, I just simply have to know exactly the distance between me and every person, wall, and object nearby. While my trustworthy 30’ Stanley® FatMax® Tape Measure certainly works wonders, an item I certainly would love the pleasure of using is a high-quality laser distance measure. One of my favorite parts about this article is how it began with an explanation of laser distance measure vocabulary and the etymology of the names people use to refer to the tool. As someone without much background knowledge on the world of laser distance measurers, I found that to be an extremely helpful resource so that I know I am using the proper language when referring to the tool. I also enjoyed the thoroughly fleshed out pros and cons list for each laser distance measurer in the article, as well as the different laser distances measures for each use. Now I know which tool to get if I need a laser tape measure for the outdoors, or for indoor home use. Unfortunately, they are a little pricey, but when I am preparing to purchase my first laser distance measurement device, I am glad I know exactly where to look.

This is cool, but even though it claims to be accurate up to 1/16th of an inch, I still probably wouldn't use it. Even as a lighting designer hopeful I can't see myself purchasing one of these. One of the most common cases of needing to measure something in lighting is measuring distances between lights. A laser tape measure needs something to reflect off of and bounce back into the sensor. If I am going to be measuring the distances between lights on a pipe, I'd need to place some sort of object, where the starting point is so that the laser light can relfect back at the device, which kindof defeats the purpose. Ultimately, I think it might be useful for gauging trim heights, but most theatres already have systems and practices in place to do this. If you can't trust your tools, how can you trust your outcome?

Fun fact I had never thought too hard about laser tape measures. That is until I came to the Carnegie Mellon school of drama. Here's the thing: at my high school we had a couple laser tape measures, but we didn't use them too often. however coming to the sod that definitely changed. lots of people love to use a good old laser tape measure here, and that is because they are very helpful and useful. I actually had no idea how much they cost, and I think it's interesting to look at that and see the prices from different brands. It's interesting seeing all the different tools ranges, and just the different functions in between each item. I also think that laser tape measures can get way too expensive, and I genuinely don't know why people need really expensive ones. it's like the $70 screwdriver, I mean get it I guess but why?

I never knew there were so many types of laser tape measures, or laser distance measures as the article calls them. It’s such a cool technology that I still don’t really think I understand. In a way it reminds me of the iPhone measuring app, though clearly much more advanced and accurate (with lasers too). I’ve not actually used one before, though I keep hearing about them and how cool they are from DP’s across Purnell - I think one of my professors had one during crew call the other night. Anyway it’s super cool that there are so many types, so you can find the one that “fits right for you” as mentioned in the article, and compare the differences between ones that are super super expensive and those that might work just as well but without as many features, etc. I’m glad people sit down to write articles like this as they can be super helpful when trying to get informed about a tool, or if someone possibly would want to purchase something and didn't know which to buy. I especially appreciated how this article has a description for each, pros and cons list, and a “key features” section to tell you the difference it has from other measuring tools.

This was such an interesting article to read. Who knew that there were so many different laser tape measures and that they all did different things and that people were so opinionated on which ones were better. I certainly did not. I had no idea that there were so many different brands that made laser tape measurers. I assumed that like the basic big names in the power tool industry made laser tape measures but I was surprised to see so many names that I did not recognize on this list. I loved seeing all of the pros and cons list for each tape measure, I thought that was really silly goofy but still interesting to read. There was a lot of interesting things listed as pros or cons that I would not have thought of as a pro or a con about a laser tape measure. I am glad people are passionate about laser tape measures and that now I have a list of the best ones to use and why.
