Ford's second annual First Look births three new plays

DC Theater Arts: It’s thrilling to be in the room at the birth of the new. This is just what I experienced on Friday and Saturday, January 26 and 27, 2024, at The Ford’s Theatre Legacy Commissions: A First Look festival. Three plays, representing the second set of public readings of works commissioned by Ford’s Theatre, commanded the venerable stage.

I think it is so necessary to have festivals like this and it excites me every time to see articles like this show up on the page. It's exciting to see the care and attention given to new work in these spaces and festivals. I think festivals like these are vital to giving fresh ideas into the theater world as well as supplying a vital chain to get new writers and creators their time in the spotlight. I think it is a good idea to celebrate works like this in an environment where it allows so many people to view and be exposed to it. The fact that there is free entry and it's advertised as something never seen before, which it is but that sort of thing brings people in and expands audiences. I appreciated the variety and diversity this article talked about within the festival. It just seems like a great way to get new work and life into the system.
