As somebody who would find it fun to work in the film industry, I think this article is very cool as it lays out many companies and places to look for jobs in film. While theatre and film are not so different on the outside, I do think there are certain jobs and occupations that have an easier time compared to others when making the switch between the two. As a TD, I am not even sure what job titles to look for that would pertain to something I would be interested in, as the vernacular is not very standardized between industries. Knowing the companies listed in this article would surely be a good place to start, but I do think it's also about knowing what you are looking for. In film, at least what I've seen, there is not a person who holds the title of technical director, and therefore I'm not quite sure what job title to even start looking for. The websites listed in the article are nice to have as well, but again there is a problem with titles being different between film and theatre.
I always appreciate articles like this that outline the very entry level tips and tricks, especially when it comes to career related things. Without any leads or knowledge about the process, finding entertainment (in this case, film) jobs is an incredibly daunting task and this kind of article is exactly the kind of jumping point that is often so useful. While it’s not a complete guide to how to figure out job applications in the film industry, it does give a jumping off points for folks to absorb and apply towards career research and general understanding of the industry even functions (which, in itself is a huge barrier as it’s not necessarily easy to figure out how such a complex industry works and how you as a worker can fit into it). Even though this article is a small step, its impact should not be underestimated, and I think that the more of this type of informative article out there, the better.
