Broadway Dims Its Lights in Memory of 3-Time Tony Honoree Chita Rivera February 17
Playbill: The Broadway community and the Committee of Theatre Owners honors the memory of three-time Tony-winning actor Chita Rivera—who passed away January 30 at the age of 91—by dimming the lights of all Broadway theatres February 17 at 7:45 PM ET for one minute.

I think tributes like this are necessary. I think it is important to honor the memory of someone who broke through so many boundaries within their own field. That is why I love seeing traditions like this put into practice. I think it allows the community time to ponder one of the greats. I think things like this allow us to think about our legacies and allows us to look deeply into what we will or want to leave behind. I think it is important to dim the lights on Broadway not only to honor the great ones who have moved on from this world but for ourselves. I think it serves as a beautiful reminder that our time here is not guaranteed and it allows us to refocus, and to rethink what we are really all doing here. Anyway, here is to a lovely tradition, in honor of an excellent performer and artist.
