Ballet on the Trocks
Pasatiempo | santafenewmexican.com: The 26-year-old is a member of the cast of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and he says he first tried pointe shoes thanks to a college dance instructor. Molinero del Paso attended the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, and he had a teacher named Andrea Tallis who thought it was good practice for men to try wearing pointe shoes. They can help in their leaping, says Molinero del Paso, because they provide more support.

I actually went and watch a show by the Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo a couple weeks ago here in Pittsburgh, and they were AMAZING(the audience member behind me…not so much). I loved watching a non-traditional ballet show, where I can both appreciate the artist and also have fun! I also stayed behind for the Q&A with the director of the company, and I learned so much about their company. The casting system is almost exactly like how the dancer describes it in the article. The prospective dancer goes and takes a couple classes with them, and if they like them and see them as a good fit, they get the job! They, unlike traditional ballet companies, don’t have a “retirement” age, so there are dancers who are well into their thirties, as well as forties! When I saw them perform, they all seem to have such a passion for the art form, and the fact that they get to customize the dying swan solo to their own style is so mesmerizing to me.
