Actor with autism finds connection with lead role in 'Curious Incident'

The San Diego Union-Tribune: It’s common for theater actors to show up on their first day of rehearsal with a few ideas about how they’d like to play the character they were hired to perform. And then there’s Daniel Patrick Russell, who will play the lead role of Christopher Boone in CCAE Theatricals’ San Diego premiere of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” opening Friday in Escondido.

THIS IS AN AMAZING SHOW!! I did this show my senior year of highschool and it was such an amazing experience. This play originates from a book and then turned into a play. It is beautifully written and the characters are so well developed that every audience member gets connected to the play. This play is also very movement heavy and when we did the show we had to train our bodies to make sure we could lift our Christopher and be safe about it. The process of creating this show is so collaborative, like every theatre piece is, that it truly connects everyone to the story and how much Christopher has grown. I think that giving someone that is austics this role is very empowering because this story is a hard one but it also shows how much Christopher grows and learns throughout the show. The independence that Christopher gains from his travels is something that many people do not realize how important it is for him.
