DC Theater Arts: Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company is proud to announce the first recipients of the Weissberg Commissions. The commissioned artists are Vivian J. O. Barnes, Gethsemane Herron, Jenn Kidwell, and Justin Weaks. The Weissberg Commissions are opportunities for Woolly to support artists born, raised, or based in Washington, DC, and surrounding areas and/or writing about topics that resonate with the DMV.

Growing up in the DMV area I have been constantly surrounded by regional theatre and new work projects. I have never seen anything from the Wolly Mammoth theatre but have always wanted to go. This theatre is where A Strange Loop debuted and I have always wanted to go to this theatre ever since. It is even more inspiring that the Weissberg Foundation has chosen the Wolly Mammoth Theatre company for this grant to help promote stories that reflect the DMV area written by DMV artists. These artists will receive $5,000 to $25,000 based on the size of the project in order to put it on stage at the Wolly Mammoth theatre. I will be keeping my eye on their ticket sales in the coming months to see if I can go to one of these new works productions and experience Wolly Mammoth theatre productions for the first time.
