Brooklyn's Kings Theatre Dumps Scandal-plagued Ticketmaster

www.ticketnews.com: The harsh spotlight on already unpopular Ticketmaster has cost the Live Nation Entertainment-owned ticketing giant at least one contract, as Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY announced it was switching vendors. Kings Theatre announced the change in a posting on the box office portion of its website, where it told customers that as of March 27, all tickets to events at the venue would be handled by ATG Tickets.

Ticketmaster’s outrageous price gouging has gone too far, and I’m glad that theaters are taking action against that. Choosing to go through other ticketing services is the best thing King’s Theater could have done, though I do find it interesting that there wasn’t really a triggering event that led to this decision. Maybe it’s a preemptive measure, maybe it’s in response to what other theaters have had to deal with. Giving venues, and by extension artists, more control over prices and preventing the reselling crowd from taking advantage is a step in the right direction and I hope more theaters follow suit. The importance of the legal action being taken against companies like Ticketmaster can’t be overstated. Implementing regulations is the only way to make theater as accessible as it should be, and I know the hard work of those advocating for these regulations to be passed will not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
