Florida Is Reportedly Sending Undercover Agents to Surveil Drag Shows
jezebel.com: In December, Florida sent a small squad of undercover state agents to an Orlando drag show at the Plaza Live theater with the express purpose of documenting any possible “lewd” activity performed in front of children. According to their subsequent report obtained by the Miami Herald, the agents identified several minors in attendance, but stated that no “lewd acts” took place at the show. Nonetheless, the Herald reported on Monday that the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation still filed a complaint against the nonprofit that runs Plaza Live.

The news that Florida is sending undercover agents to survivor support groups in order to target survivors who may be illegally obtaining medical marijuana is not only ridiculous but also deeply concerning. It is an invasion of privacy and a violation of the trust that survivors have in these groups.
Survivors of trauma and abuse often turn to support groups as a safe space to share their experiences and heal from their trauma. The fact that these groups are now being targeted by undercover agents is not only disrespectful to the survivors themselves but also to the sanctity of these support groups.
Furthermore, it is important to note that medical marijuana has been shown to have therapeutic benefits for individuals who suffer from PTSD and other mental health conditions. By targeting survivors who may be using medical marijuana illegally, Florida is essentially denying them access to a potentially life-changing treatment.
With all of the recent legislative changes that Florida has been pushing within the state department have been far beyond absurd, and the actions they are taking to enforce such ridiculous regulations goes to show how prejudice the state can be. When it comes to personal expression, Florida seems to really enjoy taking that expression away from queer people, despite it not being harmful in any way. There is a huge argument by republican politicians that drag queens are harmful towards children, and yet they fight against gun control, which is one of the biggest threats towards children besides automobile accidents. I am thankful to be from a state that is even slightly more blue than Florida because of the state’s neglect to protect the rights of the people in the state. They would rather police the freedom of the people, and the fact that they are monitoring citizen’s activity only goes to further the idea that they do not have the people’s best interests at heart, but rather their own cruel political agendas.
Be so for real Florida. This is so absolutely ridiculous to hear. Does the Florida government not have anything better to do than to have secret agent infiltrate drag shows? Like if you just wanna come and see the show, just say that no need to go undercover? It just never seems to amaze me at the lengths in which the government and just American society, as a whole, will go to, in order to try and assert, and affirm their homophobic ideologies. My favorite part of this article was when is stated that the undercover agents never found anything alarming or disturbing or anything that was harmful to children. I felt like it was such a great slap in the face to the Florida government. As well as this proves so many of the lies that have been fabricated in order to make it appear, as if drag shows are just these awful group of performers.
