‘Parade’ marks a historic first in authentic Jewish casting

I think that when it comes to casting, if a role is specific to a certain group of people, especially of a specific ethnicity, it is very important for the role to be given to people from that group. In recent years, the industry as a whole has gotten much better at doing that. Casting with a conscience for these details has become much more common. However, many groups have often been overlooked, including Jews. This can lead to misrepresentation, especially if Jewish people are not even consulted in the process of creating a show. On top of this, it takes Jewish stories out of the hands of Jewish people, taking away a space for Jewish people to create their own art. I am very glad that this new production was conscious of casting Jewish people. I think that they have cast two amazing actors and I am very excited to see this show.
