Broadway Production of ROOM Has Been Postponed Indefinitely

www.broadwayworld.com: The previously announced Broadway production of ROOM, which was set to begin previews in just a few weeks, has been postponed indefinitely. The reason for the postponement, according to a press release, is "due to a shortfall in capitalization and following the withdrawal of a Lead Producer."

This kind of news is heartbreaking for a show but even more so when it comes so late in the process. I have rarely heard of a show getting so far into its process, going so far as to start rehearsing and even selling tickets, before getting canceled. While it may not be rare for a show to be pulled much earlier, this is just shocking and heartbreaking. In an industry that is already so volatile and where what comes next is not known, this is just another way that instability can arise. While I hadn’t heard much about this show before this news, I have heard about the story. I think it’s such a great concept and I would have loved to see a staged version of it. I hope that this is not the end of this production’s journey and it does end up coming to Broadway in the near future.

I had no idea that ROOM was being made into a show on Broadway! I watched the movie for the first time over Winter break, and it was so good. I hadn’t cried in a long time watching a movie before that one. I also learned that is how Brie Larson earned her Golden Globe, which in my opinion was so well deserved. I am a huge fan of Larson, and love her role in that movie and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I am thrilled that this powerful story is being told now onstage, and am curious how it is portrayed. I know nothing about the show other than this article, so I have no idea what to expect. I am interested in knowing how they portray the transition from the ROOM to the outside world in a scenic perspective, and how they incorporate music and lyrics in a hopefully non-cheesy or cliche way.

The release of the news that ROOM would be indefinitely postponed made me really upset. I really love this book and movie. Brie Larson winning the Golden Globe for this movie for best actress really was well deserved in my opinion. So to hear this is coming up a stage adoption I got really excited especially because a alum for my high school was going to be in it, Ephraim Sykes. So seeing his emotions through this through Instagram and through the rabbit holes of my high school are upsetting. I also just feel like it’s sad how far they gotten to this process and that it was this far and that it got shut down. Also, the fact that it wasn’t anything on the cast of creative team, the fact that it was on the producing side is sad, because now so many people are out of jobs.

I honestly did not know that this was in production on Broadway, it is a bit unfortunate to find out in this manner. This is a show that I would love to see, literally at just reading this article title I thought about what a good show this has the potential to be. I imagine is it rather difficult to have been working on this production and then get the news, and for it to come down to money as being the factor that this work will not be seen at the expected time. I genuinely hope that Room is able to find the capital that it requires for this show to make it to and through its opening date. The movie was received so well with its numerous awards, and it truly was an incredible movie to watch – I felt that the story was conveyed in such a heartbreaking manner and I would love to see this story get transferred to the stage.
